How It Works

Classic baking relies on simple weight ratios between core ingredients. By knowing the ratio, you can scale any recipe up or down precisely using a kitchen scale, producing consistent results every time.

Baker's Ratios

Each recipe is defined as a set of ingredient proportions relative to flour (100%). For example, a basic bread dough uses 100% flour, 65% water, 2% salt, and 2% yeast. If you set the flour to 500 g, the calculator multiplies each percentage to give you exact weights.

Why Weight Matters

Volume measurements (cups, tablespoons) are inconsistent for dry ingredients. A cup of flour can weigh anywhere from 120 g to 160 g depending on how it is scooped. Weight-based baking removes this variability and is the standard in professional bakeries worldwide.
